Fake Artist is the drawing game where you are trying not to draw too well. Everybody is given the same subject and takes turns adding a single line to one shared picture — except one player, who was never told what it is and has to fake their way through two turns.

The squeeze is what makes it. Draw the subject too clearly and you have handed the impostor exactly what they needed; draw it too vaguely and the room will think you are the one who does not know. Every line you add is a small confession of how much you know.

Then the room votes. Catch the impostor and they still get one guess at the subject to steal the round back, so being caught is not the end of it — which is why a good fake spends their turns watching as hard as drawing.

How to play Fake Artist

  1. 1Create a room and share the 6-letter code with 3 or more friends.
  2. 2Everybody sees the subject except one player, chosen at random, who is not told what it is.
  3. 3Take turns adding one line each to the same picture, in colour, with everyone watching.
  4. 4When the picture is done, vote for whoever you think was faking it.
  5. 5If the room catches them, the fake gets one guess at the subject — right, and they take the round anyway.

Fake Artist FAQ

How many players do you need for Fake Artist?+

Four at a minimum, and it is at its best with five to seven. Below four there are too few lines for a picture to form; above eight the wait between your turns gets long.

Can I just refuse to draw anything?+

You can draw as little as you like, and it is a bad strategy. A player who contributes nothing is the most obvious impostor in the room, which is why the game asks for two lines rather than one.

Do I need to be able to draw?+

No. Everyone is drawing one line of a shared picture on a phone with a fingertip, so the pictures are all terrible. That is the level playing field the game runs on.

What happens if the vote ties?+

Nobody is convicted and the impostor wins. The room has to actually agree, which is the pressure the whole voting phase is made of.

Is this the same as Fake Artist Goes to New York?+

It is the same idea — one player drawing something they have not been told — rebuilt for phones, with the turn order, the subject and the vote all handled for you.
